Barry’s Bay — The Valley Manor Long Term Care Home in Barry’s Bay recently celebrated 45 years in the community, and there are many exciting things happening in the future of the home.

The Valley Manor has come a long way from their fireside lounge, starched uniforms and smoking rooms of the later 70s—memories that the leadership team laugh about and remember fondly as bygone days.

Kathy Marion is the chair of the Valley Manor board, and has been involved with the home for over 20 years. According to her, the Manor was started by a group of devoted individuals who saw the need for care as living at-home became more difficult for people.

“A group of Christian men and women got together and said ‘we need this in our community’,” Marion said.

Since then, the Valley Manor has provided long term care and a warm place to live for thousands of people. Prior to the Manor, there was nowhere in the community for people to go who had higher living needs in their senior years.

The closest long term care homes were in North Bay or Pembroke.
