The Shine the Light Campaign is a key part of Community Living Month, dedicated to raising awareness, building understanding, and sparking meaningful conversations about inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities.
During this campaign, communities are encouraged to “shine a light” on the importance of belonging, meaningful relationships, and full participation in community life. By wearing blue, sharing messages of inclusion, and showing visible support—such as changing outdoor lights to blue or green—individuals and organizations can help promote acceptance, challenge stigma, and celebrate the diverse contributions of people supported by Community Living organizations.
To mark Community Living Month and shine a light on its work, the Madawaska Valley Association for Community Living (MVACL) will host a series of community events throughout May, offering opportunities for the public to participate and connect.
Event Schedule:
May 1 – Kick-Off BBQ, 12–2 p.m.
May 5 – Painting Rocks for Kindness
May 6 – Trivia Night at Vito’s, 6:30–8:30 p.m. (RSVP: 613-756-5252)
May 16 – Bay Day – Visit the MVACL booth
May 22 – BBQ and live music featuring Cori Coulas and Jackson Kargus at the Legion, 5–8 p.m.
May 29 – MVACL Baseball Tournament at the PYJCC Ballfield
We look forward to community members participating in this year’s events.
