OPP INVESTIGATING DEATH

Victim Identified – Manslaughter Charge Laid

(Killaloe, ON) – The Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested and charged an individual in connection with a death on the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan Ontario First Nation Territory, near Golden Lake.

The OPP was called to a residence on Kagagimin Inamo shortly after 7:00 p.m. on November 6, 2023 and located a deceased individual.

The victim has now been identified as Joseph Sarazin, age 58 from Pikwakanagan Ontario First Nation.

As a result of the investigation, Rachel SARAZIN, age 61 from Pikwakanagan Ontario First Nation has been arrested and charged with Manslaughter, Section 236(b) of the Criminal Code.

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice, Pembroke on November 10, 2023. The matter is now before the courts and the OPP will be unable to comment further on the incident.

The investigation by the Renfrew County Crime Unit and OPP Forensic Identification Services continues, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
