Township prepares for earthquake

BARRY’S BAY – On December 21, 2015, a member from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services led an emergency preparedness training exercise at the Township of Madawaska Valley office.

The annual mandatory training exercise was led by Phillipe Geoffrion, Field Officer, Capital Sector, Southeast Area, Emergency Management Ontario.

The exercise involved Mayor Kim Love, municipal staff and representatives from a number of local agencies including the Ontario Clean Water Agency, St. Francis Memorial Hospital, Madonna House, Barry’s Bay Senior Support Services, Community Living and the Ontario Provincial Police.

In the event of an emergency, an action centre would be set up with staff from these agencies led by the mayor and the municipality’s CAO/Clerk, Craig Kelley.

Two workshops were given before the exercise began.
