Rockingham resident heads to Guatemala astride Roxy

ROCKINGHAM – On Labour Day Chris MacLuckie started out his horse Roxy from Rockingham on a 5,000 mile 2-year journey. He will be riding through Canada, the United States and Mexico to reach his final destination in Guatelamala; San Andres Itzapa, Chimaltenango.

The objective of the ride is to raise money for a Guatemalan non-government organization, Maya Pedal. In 2003, MacLuckie interned for 8 months for Maya Pedal, which develops, builds, markets and distributes sustainable pedal powered technology for the homes and farms of Guatemalans. For example, Maya Pedal has created pedal powered water well pumps and corn grinders. It is now exporting that technology globally.

To fund his ride to Guatemala, MacLuckie created a GoFundMe campaign and held a yard sale in August.

This weekend he reached the United States.

Already he has met with much generosity along the way meeting friends new and old. While riding, he is keeping a blog of his adventures.
