OPP reports bomb threats to schools in northern/eastern Ontario, none in Renfrew/Hastings counties

The Ontario Provincial Police released a statement about 12:30 Wednesday afternoon that the force was investigating, “multiple bomb threats. Locations in Northern and Eastern Ontario targeted, no actual devices found.” The statement said multiple schools under multiple school boards and other facilities received threats and demands for payment.

Both the Renfrew County District School Board and Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board confirmed to the Gazette that no schools in those districts have been affected.

Communications Officer, Renfrew County District School Board, Hannah MacMillan forwarded the Gazette a statement it has sent to parents and guardians which reads, in part, that the board is aware of multiple bomb threats reported at schools in northern and eastern Ontario per the OPP release. “Currently, there are no threats in our District. Our schools are operating normally. There is no need to call the school regarding this matter.” The statement said if the board is advised of a change in situation by the OPP, the board will notify families.

The OPP release said many targeted schools have been closed as a precaution. The OPP Cybercrime Investigations Team is also part of the investigation.
