MVDHS winterfest lets students chill

BARRY’S BAY – Students at Madawaska Valley District High School took part in a day of fun on March 6.

The popular winterfest gives high school students the chance to ease into the March break, by giving them a variety of games and activities to compete in during the day.

The day started with the Amazing Race, a modified rendition of the popular reality-television show. Organized by student Theresa Paplinskie, students had to figure out the clues to their next obstacle.

Roadblocks included a snowshoeing race, show-cone eating contest and snow angel-making race.

Three teams entered, including an energetic group of teachers. But in the end, it was the students that won the race. This year’s Amazing Race winners include Paige mask, Martina Coulas, Bailey Dombroskie, Grace Poff-Smith, Mushana Schroeder and Crystal Palubeski.

Also during the day, some youth participated in the broomball tournament that took place at the outdoor rink in Barry’s Bay.

Video games, an open gym and other activities took place at the high school itself. Students also had the opportunity to purchase some homemade treats with all proceeds benefiting the Students Activities Council.

For the anglers, a fishing tournament took place at Kamaniskeg Lake.

In the afternoon, the teachers and future MVDHS graduates got together for a much-anticipated hockey game. Both teams played fiercely in hopes of winning bragging rights.

But in the end, the students ended up winning the game, 7-4.
