MVDHS makes Mediterranean memories

BARRY’S BAY- Together with Education First (EF) Tour, Madawaska Valley District High School (MVDHS) teacher Anne Banitowski organized the trip of a lifetime to Greece and Italy for 29 lucky travellers this past March.

The group included 20 students and nine adult chaperones, including teac Bev Burchat who, for the second time, supervised while enjoying the sights. Banitowski said this was the biggest group she had ever taken on an overseas trip.

Upon arrival in Athens, the group met up with friendly tour guide Photis Baroutsos, whose name comes from the Greek word phos, meaning light. He said he was there to light and guide their way, and from there, he would escort and accompany the group the remainder of their trip.

According to Banitowski, the trip was fast-paced and they walked an average of 12 kilometres each day. In the midst of early rises and days filled with sightseeing and adventure, students and adults experienced ancient architecture, history and friendships.
