Murat, Mary (nee Galbraith)

January 1, 1932 – August 5, 2020

It is with sadness the family announces the passing of Mary Janet Murat at the Madawaska Valley Hospice Palliative Care in Barry’s Bay Ontario on August 5, 2020. Mary was 88 years old. Mary is predeceased by her parents Mary and James Galbraith, her husband Robert A. Murat, and her siblings Jean Austin (Braden), Donald Galbraith (Beverly), Elizabeth Rice (James), and Douglas Galbraith (Betty). Mary is survived by three children, Jayne Murat (Sasha), Donald Murat (Mary) and Susan Kirk (Andrew) and one grandchild Robert J. Murat. Mary will be missed by her many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews as well as by her step-grandson, David Kirk (Coralie).

Mary will be remembered by all as having great resilience, determination and a positive attitude. She was a wonderful hostess and people were always welcome in her home and cottage at Carson Lake. Mary was able to cross the generation gap and was serene, warm and easy to talk to. When she moved into Water Tower Lodge she made new friends and continued to enjoy her time with the Petticoat Bridge Club and Red Hat activities.

Mary gave back to her community. She was an original board member for Valley Manor and saw it built. Mary was involved with the Lionettes. She taught at Madawaska Valley and District High School and pioneered the music program. After she stepped down from the Board of Valley Manor she was an active member of the Auxiliary for many years.

The family wishes to thank the Madawaska Valley Hospice Palliative Care and Water Tower Lodge for the loving care provided to her.

Visitation will be at the Heubner Funeral Home in Barry’s Bay August 15th from 10:00-12:30 followed by a short graveside service at 1:00 at St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery.
