Men’s soccer team unites communities

BARRY’S BAY – On May 31, men from around the Valley met on the soccer field next to Madawaska Valley District High School for a game of competitive soccer.

It was an action-packed evening, as the Madawaska United soccer team went head to head with team Madameek. A total of 21 men are on the Madawaska United soccer team, which is a part of the Upper Ottawa Valley Soccer League.

Team Manager Michael Gow said the men come from many corners of the community but all share in one love: soccer.

“A bunch of us who played indoor soccer together decided to enter a team into the UOV league [around two years ago] when we found out there would be no co-ed soccer in the area,” Gow said.
Most of the men are from Combermere, Barry’s Bay, and Palmer Rapids, with a few from the Bancroft area as well.
