Mapleton House hosts maple syrup information day

HARDWOOD LAKE – Their slogan is Tap into the Knowledge, and the Ontario Maple Syrup Producer’s Association (OMSPA) encourages existing and potential members to do just that.

The Ottawa Valley chapter, one of 11 chapters of the OMSPA had their annual information day session at Mapleton House in Hardwood Lake on February 9.
The information day is a chance to learn more about everything about maple. It is the OMSPA’s way of getting the latest maple news out to all producers in Ontario.
For owners of Mapleton House, Bevan and Linda McGarry, this was their third year hosting the information day. The McGarrys have been members with the OMSPA for seven years and have produced maple syrup at their Hardwood Lake location during that time.
Bevan is recovering from a knee replacement so Linda said they won’t be making maple syrup this year. However, they do plan to offer local maple syrup products for sale in the upcoming months.
Jo and Ed Lentz of Madawaska Maple Products came to the information day and said they found it helpful and interesting, as well as a time to socialize.
Story continues in the February 13, 2013 issue of The Valley Gazette.
