BARRY’S BAY – Operations Manager Hilary Kutchkoskie informed council at a prior meeting that a request for proposal (RFP) for two new pickup trucks was not successful. The RFP was specific about make and model of the truck and none were available that fit the criteria.
Kutchkoskie, at the direction of council, re-issued the RFP with somewhat broader criteria. He presented the results of the second proposal process to the May 6 Council in Committee meeting for the Township of Madawaska Valley.
Summers Bros Ford in Killaloe provided the lowest bid for two trucks at $52,212 each, excluding HST. The total for both trucks including HST is $115,739 against a budgeted amount of $110,000.
Council approved the purchase. The township will declare two existing 2008 model year trucks as surplus and make them available at auction after the two new trucks are delivered.
Operations Supervisor Mike Phillips informed council that the township road crews had 45 snow events during the 2024/25 winter season. “Normally we’re running around the low 30s to mid 30s for events,” he explained.
Council previously approved the purchase of a tow-behind sweeper which Phillips said should be delivered in the next week.
The new container which will be put at the Bark Lake disposal site for the second chance items will be installed in May. The current container is in bad repair and needs to be replaced.
Phillips is meeting with the County of Renfrew to discuss repair options for sidewalk areas near the St. Francis Memorial Hospital.
Phillips said he would bring an update on the sand dome project to the Apr. 21 meeting.
