Irish eyes are smiling at St. Lawrence tea

BARRY’S BAY – The annual St. Patrick’s Day Tea was once again held in the basement of St. Lawrence O’Toole Parish on March 15.

The event, which is organized by members of the Catholic Women’s League (CWL), has been a staple at the parish for more than 50 years. That is according to CWL president Carmel Rumleskie.

“It’s our annual fundraiser and it’s one of the biggest ones of the year,” Rumleskie explained. “It’s also the first big event of spring.”

It takes dozens of volunteers to pull off an event of that magnitude, she said. CWL members make the sandwiches and desserts ahead of time, and students from Madawaska Valley District High School serve tea and coffee.
