KILLALOE – The resurfacing work on two roads were of interest at the October 30 regular meeting of Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards (KHR) municipal meeting.
The resurfacing work on County Road 58, Round Lake Road, has been regularly discussed at KHR municipal meetings over the summer and was again the topic of discussion at the October 30 regular meeting.
The municipality has received complaints about the new surface, some of which were passed on to County of Renfrew staff who were responsible for overseeing the work on the county road.
CAO/Clerk Treasurer Lorna Hudder received a letter dated October 12 from the county’s Director of Public Works & Engineering Steve Boland, who quotes from the County’s Operations Committee August 8 meeting minutes.
The extract states, in part, ‘significant distortions in the asphalt in isolated areas of the road surface were observed approximately 250 metres south of Mask Road and 610 metres north of Mask Road.’
An engineering study determined that the cause of the distortions was, ‘poor existing sub-grade (clay or peat), as opposed to a deteriorated granular base or paving operation. Since the issue was determined to be caused by the existing sub-grade conditions, the contractor is not responsible for the repairs.’
The cost to repair the ‘affected areas is $52,000,’ the meeting minutes note.
