EGANVILLE – Despite the thunderstorm watch, 60 people attended the 5th Annual Paddle and Fiddle on the Bonnechere River on July 13.
The paddlers in canoes, kayaks and standup paddle boards put on just below Eganville and explored the little visited and undeveloped section of the Bonnechere River down to Fourth Chute and the Bonnechere Caves.
Guy Jamieson of Eganville was this year’s fiddler. His tunes could be heard above the gurgling swifts as the paddlers glided downstream.
The Paddle and Fiddle is a collaboration between the Bonnechere River Watershed Project and the Bonnechere Caves.
Kathy Lindsay of the Bonnechere River Watershed Project said the idea for the event came from a similar event in New Brunswick. When Chris Hinsperger of the Bonnechere Caves was approached about creating the event on the Bonnechere River, he was enthusiastic.
The event is intended to show off a beautiful stretch of the river and for people to have fun.
