WHITNEY – When Jamie McRae, of the McRae Lumber Company in Whitney, was asked to be involved in the J. D. McRae Mill Lookout in Eganville, he was keen to volunteer.
“Obviously it’s important to me, the park is being named after my great, great grandfather J.D. McRae. Just downstream from there is the site of our very first sawmill in the 1890s. I’m 5th generation now and still in the saw milling business.
It’s neat we have recognition of the history and looking back to the past and celebrating the forest industry in general, the rich history we have in the Ottawa Valley. I think it’s important to be a part of that, it’s kind of cool.”
