Local woman celebrates 100 years

BARRY’S BAY – She was born in one of the most difficult times imaginable: in the middle of World War I in Warsaw, Poland.

However, as she blew out the candles on her birthday cake celebrating her 100th birthday this past May 20 at the Opeongo Seniors Centre, Elizabeth Namiesniowski beamed with happiness.

Born in 1917, Namiesniowski was married by the time World War II had started. He remained there until the end of the war, when he joined the Polish army under the British command.
