WILNO – Staff and clients of the Rainbow Valley Community Health Care Centre (RVCHCC) are nicely settled in to their new location in Wilno.
The healthcare centre moved to the former St. Mary’s Catholic School building in Wilno to facilitate the renovations underway at their original building, which is located at 49 Mill Street in Killaloe. Since it was built in 1940, the renovations needed include the removal of asbestos in the Killaloe building, installing a new septic tank and removal of lead drainpipes in the Mill Street health centre.
“Similar to many buildings in the area which were built around the same time, the asbestos was safe as long as it was not disturbed,” Manager of Health Services Joanne Pecarskie said. “However, any work completed within the building had the potential to increase exposure.”
She said St. Francis Memorial Hospital (SFMH) and RVCHCC are committed to nurturing a healthy and safe workplace for all staff and patients.
When the Community Infrastructure Renewal Funding (CIRF) pilot project presented an opportunity to receive one-time funds, the healthcare centre submitted a proposal for the renovations. CIRF is a pilot project by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care to invest dollars into community health provider’s infrastructure in order to keep them in a state of good repair so patients can continue to receive high quality care in a safe and healthy environment. In total, $4.1 million dollars made available throughout the province.
