Skating around the world in Barry’s Bay

BARRY’S BAY – The theme of this year’s Barry’s Bay Figure Eights Annual Ice Show was Around the World giving the skaters plenty of reasons to wear lavish costumes.
The annual ice show is a way for the club to showcase the results of a season’s dedication and striving for excellence on the part of skaters and coaches.
On March 13, Club President Marie Yantha, and Vice President Anita Jessup were quick to praise the dedicated and ambitious coaches Lisa Gorra, Carolyn Cannon and Anna Shteyngart. 
They also thanked the many sponsors and families who support the club.
The skating performances were followed by a series of awards. 
Evita Rose Martin won the CanSkate of the Year Award for demonstrating talent and passion for the sport of figure skating. 
Britney Yantha was awarded the Karen Prince Memorial Trophy to honour a senior skater who exhibits kindness, sportsmanship, joy and perseverance on ice.
Club President Marie Yantha was awarded the Ruth Bonney Memorial Trophy to honour a volunteer who has demonstrated charitable dedication and enthusiastic inspiration for the overall benefit of the club.
Mallory Voldock and Britney Yantha shared the Spirit of Skating Award given in honour of Faye Yantha to the program assistant judged by the coach to have been a good role model on and off the ice displaying hard work, dependability, and enthusiasm.
