Miss Teen Ontario East is from Barry’s Bay

BARRY’S BAY – A Barry’s Bay girl has become the Miss Teen Ontario East 2014.
Theresa Paplinskie, 17, headed to the competition in Renfrew on April 3 that took place at the recreation centre. There, she met the 20 other delegates that were competing for the crown.
The pageant supports childhood cancer charities and other cancer charities.
After the girls got to know one another this past weekend, they began practicing a choreographed dance that they would perform on pageant night.
Theresa, who is a Grade 11 student at Madawaska Valley District High School, said she really enjoyed getting to know the other contestants.
“That’s really why this pageant is set apart from others,” she explained. “It definitely was a positive and fun-loving atmosphere, everyone was kind to each other.”
It was an early start on the morning of April 4 for the contestants, as they all woke up at 5:00 a.m. and headed to the Renfrew Collegiate Institute. There, the girls served breakfast for the Relay for Life event.
Theresa said she worked the syrup station and had a lot of fun.
“It was a great way for the community to meet the delegates,” she said.
After a Relay for Life assembly, the girls headed to Pembroke. They were each given $20 and allotted 20 minutes to pick out an outfit for the fashion show on pageant night. It was an effort to teach the girls time management and budgeting.
