Annual Church fundraiser meal a crowd-pleasing success

SCHUTT – St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church hosted their biggest annual fundraiser on May 11, serving up a delicious buffet supper.
The meal included a choice of ham or turkey with plenty of sides, salads and desserts. Costs were adults $12, and children six to 12 $6, with five and under free. Organized by the Women’s Friendship Group in the church, lots of helping hands were involved with and contributed to the evening’s success.
According to Donna Liedtke church members worked together to help with set up, preparation, serving and clean up.
“It keeps us busy,” Liedtke said with a smile.
All the food with the exception of the meat was donated and proceeds raised directly benefit the church.
“However they need it we donate the money to the church,” Liedtke said.
In the church basement Liz Genrick greeted and collected money from the steady stream of hungry patrons from 4-7 p.m. Genrick later reported that by the end of the night a total of 195 people came through the door.
Mary Kargus said that the event is typically scheduled for the second Saturday in May, which lands on the day before Mother’s Day.
