70-year auxilian Agnes Pecarskie passes

BARRY’S BAY – A volunteer who helped bring St. Francis Memorial Hospital to Barry’s Bay, and continued volunteering there throughout her long life, has passed away. Agnes Pecarskie, 94, worked her final Thursday shift at the hospital on September 27 and died in her sleep that evening at her home at the Stafford Street Apartments. Agnes was born June 9, 1924 and raised on the Murack family homestead, northwest of Wilno. Her parents were the late Mary and Michael. Agnes was the youngest of the family, having four older brothers and an older sister. When she was just 16 years old in 1940, she married her husband Joseph G. Percarskie, who was 30 years old. “That was normal at the time,” their son, Michael Pecarskie said. Life would have been lonely for Agnes, particularly during the winter months, when Joseph would go to the lumber camps for work. She lived on the Murack family homestead until the couple built a house in Barry’s Bay. To read the full article, pick up a copy of the October 10, 2018 Valley Gazette.
