Wilson named Senior of the year

BARRY’S BAY – Dorothy Wilson was presented with the Ontario Senior of the Year Award on May 26.
That morning, Madawaska Valley Mayor David Shulist was on hand to deliver the provincial recognition.
Each year, municipalities nominate an outstanding local Ontarian, over the age of 65, who have enriched the social, cultural or civic life of his or her community.
Wilson volunteers at the Opeongo Seniors Centre, where she helps with secretarial duties, teaches exercise classes and cooks for monthly dinners.
She is on the Barry’s Bay Relay for Life committee, where she helps as secretary and selling luminaries for the event.
Wilson also is involved in the Madawaska Valley Hospice Palliative Care program, where she sits with patients who are in their final days.
In addition to all her other volunteer commitments, Wilson entertains for residents at the Water Tower Lodge and helps out at the monthly United Church worship services there as well.
