EGANVILLE Two co-ed teams are heading off to broomball regional tournaments this weekend.

The Valley Lakers are going to eastern Ontario regionals in Alexandria. Team Chaos, formed this year, is going to central Ontario regionals in Cannington, near Lindsay.

If they are both successful, the teams could play against each other at the provincials in Goderich, March 22-24. The Valley Lakers have been chosen as the host team for the nationals taking place in Cornwall, April 10-13.

Both teams have members who have played at world level.

Broomball seems to be going through something of a resurgence in the Valley.

Team Chaos spokesperson, Sharmaine Mantifel, said there has always been a strong interest in broomball in the Valley.

“It was always a popular sport in the Valley. However, over the years, a lot of people have lost interest, but there has been a group of people through Round Lake, Palmer Rapids, Wilno that have all tried to come together and get broomball going in the different areas again, with children and adults.”

Constance Leahy credits Tyler Mask of Round Lake as being the founder of Valley Lakers.
