Trade show gives back to communities

BARRY’S BAY – Christmas is a time for giving, and members of the Renfrew County Road Supervisors Association were certainly in the giving mood last week.

On December 17, members Rick O’Brien, Craig Kelley and Hilary Kutchkoskie donated $2,000 to the Giving Wings to Hospice Campaign.

The Renfrew County Road Supervisors Association meets twice a month in Cobden to discuss issues faced by municipalities in the county.

In June, the association had the privilege of hosting the 2014 Association of Ontario Road Supervisors municipal trade show, which was held in Arnprior. The trade show is the largest of its kind in Ontario, and attracts businesses and people from all around the province.

More than 300 trade show booths were rented out and more than $55,000 was collected. Money for the rentals was then donated to various charities in the region, including the Madawaska Valley hospice.

Toni Lavigne-Conway is the executive director for the St. Francis Valley Healthcare Foundation. She said the foundation is delighted to receive the money for the hospice.
