BARRY’S BAY – On December 14, 2015, Staff from Madawaska Valley District High School (MVDHS) and the Renfrew County District School Board (RCDSB) were part of a pilot program to enhance students commercial skills.

Cheryl Wellbanks, RCDSB specialist staff member explained, the pilot program is called Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship Training (ICE) and involves a community partner briefing the class on a specific problem. The students are then tasked with creating a solution.

In this case, the students are taking a Specialist High Skills Major in construction under the leadership of tech teacher Al Bennetto and the community partner is Opeongo Snowbirds Snowmobile Club (OSSC).

President Cheryl Reid was on hand at MVDHS to explain the club’s problem. She said the club is very small, and handles a 200-kilometre stretch of the Ontario trail system, from Whitney to Turner’s Camp to Wilno through Barry’s Bay.
