Three women dead, one man in custody

WILNO – The Valley is in mourning after three women were discovered dead on September 22.

Dozens of police cruisers rushed through Barry’s Bay around 9 a.m. after being called to Wilno for a suspected homicide.

Ontario Provincial Police responded to the incident on Szczipior Road in Wilno, where they found an adult female deceased. The road was closed to traffic and an Air Ornge helicopter waited patiently in the parking lot of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Upon further investigation, police then attended a second location, a residence located on Foymount Road near Cormac, where a second adult female was located deceased. Armed police members had County Road 512 blocked to traffic, stating at the time they were dealing with an active investigation.

Outside of Combermere, more tragedy was unfolding that morning. Local realtor Cathy Pitts had scheduled an appointment with a seasonal resident, who was wishing to sell her cottage located between Sand Bay Camp and Hinterland Beach on Kamaniskeg Lake Road.

“I walked over to it and as I was walking up to the deck, I noticed that the window on the main door was smashed in,” Pitts said. “I yelled if anyone was there.”

She decided to visit the neighbours, who told Pitts that the resident should be at home.
