St. Mary’s chicken dinner

WILNO – Thousands gathered once again for the annual chicken dinner held at St. Mary’s Church in Wilno on September 6.

The fundraiser has been going on since the 1930s and members of the community always look forward to the great food, live music and entertainment.

This year, 350 chickens were cooked along with carrots, peas and potatoes, to feed approximately 2,100 hungry guests who made their way to the church between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. To finish off the great meal, 500 pies were baked and served as well as a variety of donated dessert squares.

Attendance numbers were up with the addition of a new elevator that allowed easy access to the dining hall for those with mobility issues.

Organizers thank all those who donated their time and money getting the elevator ready and to the volunteers who cooked, served and cleaned so graciously for the big event.
