Ski club thrives despite the unpredictable weather

BRUDENELL   – Despite the worst ski conditions for many years, the cross country ski lesson program at Opeongo Hills Nordic Ski Club in Brudenell is thriving.

Head Instructor, Paul Jorgensen, said while the trail system has only just fully opened, the club has been able to run the kids program for the last three weeks as scheduled.

Jorgensen laughs when asked about the weather.

“It’s been difficult, but we’ve managed to pull it off every week […] As long as there’s a hill and a flat area to congregate and play a game, the program tends to work.”

The kids get a two hour lesson on Saturday mornings that includes a snack break. That gives the parents two hours to ski the trails themselves, if they wish to.

“The kids get to ski and a snack and the parents get two hours of stress free skiing,” Jorgensen said.

This is the club’s fourth year of offering a kids program.
