Saying goodbye to the lady with the beautiful smile

On May 3rd, our community lost another beautiful soul.

Dorothy (Dot) Weatherbed: wonderful mother; grandmother and great grandmother; dedicated volunteer. The sweet little lady with the warm smile.

It’s hard to think of Dot without picturing her alongside her partner in life, Bill. They were a team; one always with the other. He was the larger than life one – the jokester, the chatter. She was the quiet one; gentle and calm and always with that beautiful smile.

Dorothy Lawrence was born and raised in Oakville, It was there that she met and married Bill Weatherbed, a young man from Nova Scotia who travelled west for work. It was there in southwestern Ontario that they grew their family to include sons Mike, Andy (Ed) and Tim and daughter Patricia.

But according to their oldest son Mike, “they always had a dream of owning a general store in a small town.” So in their 40’s, they set about making that dream a reality and began to take weekend drives around Ontario to look for just the right one. That search would ultimately lead them to Combermere; the town that would steal their hearts, and the place they would live for the next 50 years.
