Santa arrives in Barry’s Bay

BARRY’S BAY – Santa Claus came to town on November 24.

Opeongo line was filled with waiting children and their parents as the celebration of the Santa Claus parade kicked off.
Floats were entered by local members of the community, with a total of 27.
A contest was being held for the best float to suit the theme of The Night Before Christmas.
A total of 25 floats were judged.
First place winner, with a prize of $200, was the Sherwood Service Centre float, with a creative way of including the theme.
The second runner-up and winner of $100 was Mad Outdoors, who had an interesting way of including their love for nature in the creation of their float. A kayak had been placed on the roof of their jeep, which was also pulling the float,
and inside of the kayak was none other than Sarah Wills.
In third place was the Palmer Rapids Lions Club, who kept to the traditional Christmas tree theme.
Several Lions Club members were walking alongside the float handing out candy to the anticipating children.
Fourth place went to The Baykery, followed by the Madawaska Valley Association for Community Living.
Story continues in the November 28, 2012 issue of The Valley Gazette.
