Rollover on Kartuzy Road sends two to hospital

BARRY’S BAY – It was a case of being at the right place at the right time. Madawaska Valley Fire Department Captain Basil Etmanskie, who owns Etmanskie Heating, was working on a home when a rollover occurred on Kartuzy Road. The accident occurred literally right beside his work site. Etmanskie called the rollover in and then took control of the scene. Two people were trapped inside the vehicle, requiring heavy extrication. “He did an excellent job by providing exact information to the dispatch,” Fire Chief Corwin Quade said. “He really comforted the two people in the vehicle and helped get them out when the rest of the department arrived. He really did an excellent job just as did the other firefighters. They had both people out with 20 minutes of arriving on scene.” The rollover occurred at 11:24 a.m. at 218 Kartuzy Road and the department responded with three trucks from two stations. Firefighters were able to get on top of the SUV, which rolled onto the driver side, and pry open the passenger door. To read the full story, pick up a copy of the August 1 paper.
