Resuming visits in long term care homes

BARRY’S BAY – While it’s not quite the storybook reunion picture many would have dreamed of, the folks at Valley Manor Long Term Care in Barry’s Bay are more than ready to welcome family and friends back for outdoor visits.

Since restricting outside visitors since March 17, staff at the Valley Manor have been focused on continuing to provide residents connections with their loved ones.

While group activities are not currently permitted, one of the key roles the Activities Department has taken on is to encourage family members to stay in touch throughout these challenging times, whether through a virtual FaceTime, Skype, a window visit and/or phone call.

According to the Ministry of Long Term Care, “the role that families, visitors and loved ones play in providing care giving and emotional supports is important in the quality of life for long-term care residents.”

As such, Valley Manor is on board with providing a gradual, staged resumption of visits, while adhering to necessary precautions to keep the safety and emotional well-being of residents and staff at the forefront.
