Renfrew Hospice benefits from bike ride

Submitted by The Eganville Leader

Eganville Leader Publisher Gerald Tracey, left, and Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke MPP and Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry cycled from Eganville to Hospice Renfrew last Friday to raise funds for the six-bed facility. Mr. Tracey, who is chair of the hospice board, had planned to do a solo trip and when Mr. Yakabuski found out about his plans he thought it was a great idea and was invited to join him. Cycling under the team name of The Twins (Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito), the 40-km ride will add $40,000 to Hospice Renfrew which is partially funded by the province. The Twins left Eganville at 9:45, arrived in Douglas at 11 where they enjoyed the hospitality of Evelyn and Terry McHale at the Douglas Tavern and then departed for Renfrew. Their cycling time was about two hours and 15 minutes, which they felt was pretty good since both men spend much of their time at desks or in vehicles and neither has cycled much since their childhood days.
