Remembrance Day poster contest winners announced

BARRY’S BAY – The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 406 unveiled the winners of its annual Remembrance Day poster contest last week.

On December 14, Dave Eagles from the legion visited St. John Bosco Catholic School to congratulate the winners.

He said there were five elementary schools involved this year including Whitney Public School, St. John Bosco Catholic School, Sherwood Public School, George Vanier Catholic School and Palmers Rapids Public School. There were also home-schooled children participating.

Eagles said there were a total of 138 participants in 11 competitions. Out of all of the schools, St. John Bosco took home the most awards in the three categories. They were followed by homeschoolers (who earned seven awards) and George Vanier Catholic School (who were awarded four).

Winners from St. John Bosco included Janisa Visutskie (junior poetry – third), Jacob Afelskie (intermediate black and white poster – third), Aimee Cybulskie (intermediate poetry – second), April Lundy (junior black and white poster – second), Hayden Pecarski-Kuiack (junior colour poster – second), and Rebecca Kerr (intermediate colour poster – first).
