KILLALOE Presidents of the Round Lake and Golden Lake property owners associations formed a joint delegation to the Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards (KHR) February 5 regular council meeting.

Rob Norris, of Round Lake, began the presentation by sharing with council that members on the lake associations are concerned with the approach of spring there might be conditions for another major flood, as happened in 2017.

“We’ve had lots of snow…and any April rains, we could be in some major difficulties,” Norris said. “Many of our members are seniors, they live on the lake and they live in fear of the annual spring freshet.”

Norris recounted that a stakeholders group of municipalities from KHR, North Algona Wilberforce, Bonnechere Valley, Renfrew, and the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation, under the leadership of MPP John Yakabuski sent a formal request to the Ministry of National Resources and Forestry in November 2017 to amend the 2004 Bonnechere Watershed Management Plan.
