After a successful year of highlighting Ottawa Valley female entrepreneurs, OV Boss Babes Podcast is planning its second International Women’s Day (IWD) event.

Starting as a maternity leave passion project, OV Babes Boss Podcast launched just over a year ago in November of 2020. But its founder Holly Molenaar says it’s since “expanded to more than just a hobby now at this point, and it has a full-fledged business.”

In one short year, the Ottawa Valley based project has achieved 20,000 downloads, international listeners, and quickly expanded to two additional podcasts with event hosting.

Molenaar says she wanted to expand to events based on her background as an executive assistant at a local not-for-profit. “I wanted to promote (business owners) through the podcast and then I had the idea because I have a background in funding and fundraising and events.”

This year, OV Boss Babes Podcast is preparing to “break the bias” with its International Women’s Day (IWD) event.
Streaming virtually on Zoom, the OV Boss Babes IWD event will tackle gender bias in the workplace. Five women will spark a conversation about gender equality and explore how workplaces are addressing such biases in 2022.

The free event is in partnership with the Local Immigration Partnership of Lanark and Renfrew and will take place in late February or early March before International Women’s Day.

“We’re gonna have the five women that are going to be in a room and it’s going to be all streamed live, so that people can tune in and listen to a panel discussion of this conversation,” says Molenaar.
