BARRY’S BAY – The Madawaska Valley Recreation Committee wound up another successful event recently as they announced the winners of their outdoor rink contest.
Committee chair Dr. Jason Malinowski told The Valley Gazette that entries came in from all of the local townships including South Algonquin, Brudenell, Lyndoch and Raglan, Killaloe, Hagarty, Richards, North Algona Wilberforce and Madawaska Valley Township. Malinowski said, “We had 19 entries which was amazing!”
Three celebrity judges judged the contest including the owner and coach of the Pembroke Lumber Kings Alex Armstrong and former NHL alumni Larry Trader and Rodney Schutt. All were impressed by the calibre of the rinks entered and the enthusiasm of the many participants.
Dr. Malinowski shared some of the comments of the judges with The Valley Gazette. Malinowski reported that Alex Armstrong said, “This just proved to me once again how proud I am to own the Lumber Kings in such a community that pours their heart into hockey. I am truly amazed at the effort put forth by everyone who entered the contest. Congratulations to everyone who entered, a job well done. During these tough times it made the days very enjoyable looking at all the amazing rinks around
our community.”
