MV Falcons shut out Maniwaki Mustangs in the third period

BARRY’S BAY – A moment of quite reflection was observed before the Saturday night game at the Paul J Yakabuski Arena between the MV Falcons and the Maniwaki Mustangs.

Both teams stood in silence to respect the mourning of the Renfrew Timberwolves. Four Timberwolves were involved in a fatal car crash on the Calabogie Road in the early hours of Friday morning. The car left the road and struck a rock cutting.

Brandon Hanniman was pronounced dead at the scene, three others were air-lifted to hospital. Alex Paquette was reported to have been taken off life support on Saturday. Ben Scheuneman is still in the Intensive Care Unit, and Jake McGrimmon has been sent home but will require surgery on his arm.

While the game between the MV Falcons and the Mustangs was slow to start, the fans were rewarded with an exciting Saturday night hockey game as the MV Falcons struggled back from an early two-goal deficit to beat the Maniwaki Mustangs 8-5.
