NUREMBERG, GERMANY – The founders of the Madawaska Kanu Centre in Barry’s Bay and OWL Rafting on the Ottawa River will be inducted into the prestigious International Whitewater Hall of Fame Class of 2019.
The ceremony, which will be held on October 5 in Nuremburg, Germany, honours the world’s most accomplished whitewater pioneers, explorers, champions and advocates.
Hermann, 81, and his late wife Christa Kerckhoff, will be honoured during the ceremony. Daughter Claudia Van Wijk, who is currently in Germany with her father, Hermann, is incredibly proud of her parents.
“This is the highest of recognitions in our world of whitewater paddling,” she told the Gazette.
