Minister allows emergency measure to lower water level on Bonnechere River

ROUND LAKE On March 12, the Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) issued an emergency decree to lower the water level of the Bonnechere River, at the Tramore Dam, just below Round Lake.

The move was in response to a March 6 letter from Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards Mayor, Janice Visneskie-Moore, who expressed concern about flooding on the water system this year.

Visneskie-Moore said the township was concerned about the extreme levels of snow pack in Algonquin Park.

After the flooding in 2017, under the guidance of MPP John Yakabuski, a standing advisory committee (SAC) was formed, which included the municipalities along the river between Renfrew and Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards, includes the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation and property owners associations from Golden Lake and Round Lake.
