Long time BLR roads superintendent to retire

QUADEVILLE – Brudenell, Lyndoch and Raglan (BLR) Roads Superintendent Alvin Kauffeldt will officially retire from his position this May after many dedicated years.

He’s enjoyed the challenge and variety, ranging from labourer to truck driver to maintaining roads and equipment to managing staff.

“When I was younger, I liked to try everything, you know, running equipment and stuff like that. Now I wish sometimes I’d never seen them,” Kauffeldt told The Valley Gazette with a laugh.

According to past township records, Kauffeldt started in spring 1974 as a truck driver with the Township of Brudenell and Lyndoch (BL). However, according to Kauffeldt, a couple years are missing in the documentation.

“They bought a new ’72 International truck, and I started that spring. I think I’m going into my 47th year,” Kauffeldt said.

Prior to working for the Township of BL, Kauffeldt worked for the Ministry of Transportation.
