Killaloe OPP host 40th annual broomball tournament

KILLALOE – Students from around the Valley gathered in Wilno and Killaloe for the 40th annual broomball tournament, hosted by the Killaloe OPP detachment.

Morning games were held in both communities, with the A, B and C tournaments being held on the outdoor rink in Killaloe.

Officers and auxiliary members helped with scorekeeping amongst other duties throughout the day. OPP Constable Darcy Nicol has helped organize the annual event for 14 years.

“It’s neat to see all the people who used to participate come back to the tournaments,” she said. “It’s a good way to create a positive relationship with the youth.”

Typically, the games were held at the outdoor rink in Round Lake. Since St. Casimir’s closed, the games were moved to Wilno this year to pay homage to St. Mary’s Catholic School, which is set to close at the end of this school year.
