Kids head back to school across the Valley

BARRY’S BAY – Busses were in full force on the morning of September 6, as elementary and high school students headed back to school for the 2016-2017 year.

While some students were returning to their schools, others were starting fresh at new ones. In June 2016, two local elementary schools within the Renfrew County District School Boards were closed due to low enrolment numbers, including Madawaska Public School and Sherwood Public School.

While the original Sherwood building closed, the students relocated to a new facility built within the walls of Madawaska Valley District High School. The complete renovation to the high school cost approximately $6.7 million, with funding coming from the Ministry of Education.

With Madawaska Public School closing in June, students had the option of attending the new Sherwood school as well.
