BARRY’S BAY – Some giggled with excitement, others wept in sorrow.

The experience was different for everyone at the fifth-annual memorial butterfly release on July 28.

Hosted by the Madawaska Valley Hospice Palliative Care and the St. Francis Valley Healthcare Foundation, the event gave residents the opportunity to grieve loved ones lost.

Lucy and Mark Perna from Lucy’s Butterfly Farm from Apsley, Ontario provided the butterflies. Members of the public purchased a young monarch in memory of a loved one. Partial proceeds went to raising the butterflies and the rest went to the local palliative care.

Karen Wagner is the Madawaska Valley Hospice Palliative Care clinical director. She welcomed everyone to the fifth annual butterfly release.
