Hospice receives special donation

BARRY’S BAY – The Madawaska Valley Hospice has received three benches handcrafted by a Barry’s Bay man.

They will provide a safe and private space for visitors to the hospice. The benches will also be transportable in the winter months to accommodate snowplows.

Gerald Cowan crafted the benches in memory of his late-wife, who received in-home assistance from the Madawaska Valley Hospice Palliative Care program. She passed away at home, and Gerald wanted to do something in memory of her.

Asked by the hospice if he would make the benches, a figure was settled upon. When he dropped off the benches, Gerald said he would be donating them instead.
