Food bank finds fridge

BARRY’S BAY – The Madawaska Valley Food Bank can now stock fresh produce after receiving several generous donations recently.

The food bank put out a call at the beginning of summer for a new fridge, after receiving a donation of fresh eggs from the Ontario Association of Food Banks. The organization had a couple of freezers on site, but never had a fridge.

So, directors of the local food bank turned to the community for help. Over the summer, the community responded with open arms, volunteer Terry Newcombe said.

In fact, the organization received six fridges in total. Ray and Paula Pastway donated the new appliance, which is now installed in the building.
The food bank also kept a used fridge donated by Ursula O’Connor. All the other donated fridges were donated to food bank patrons who needed one.
