BRUDENELL – Our Lady of the Angels Parish in Brudenell has a new steeple and bell after the former structure was ruined in a fire on Christmas Day, 2014.
The new bell and steeple were blessed during a special mass at the parish on the morning of June 4. Bishop Michael Mulhall, of the Diocese of Pembroke, presided over the mass and delivered the homily. Parish priest Michael Goring was in attendance, along with former parish priest Wilfrid Lenius (pastor in 1981) who was also celebrating his 50th year of ordination. Father Joseph Legree was celebrating 60 years of ordination, but could not make the mass. His grandparents were married in the church in 1876.
Every pew was full and it was standing room only, as many came to witness the blessing. Bishop Mulhall congratulated the community for coming together when the fire struck.
“It’s an important day for the parish,” Mulhall said.
The steeple had burned down on Christmas Day after lightning struck the structure. Brudenell-Lyndoch-Raglan firefighters were able to contain the fire to the steeple and saved the historic church from destruction.
