CRC seeks support to extend services for seniors

KILLALOE – Bil Smith, Executive Director of Community Resource Centre (CRC), was asked to attend the December 5 meeting of Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards (KHR) council by Mayor Janice Visneskie-Moore.

Smith had previously met Visneskie-Moore and KHR CEO Lorna Hudder to discuss a proposal to extend services for seniors in the municipality, hence the invitation.

After thanking the mayor for the invitation to present to council, Smith explained that the provincial government is offering funding to increase the number of Seniors Active Living Centres in the province.

Organizations in Barry’s Bay and Eganville already receive some funding from this source, Smith said.

On reading the provincial grant application, Smith said the program is targeted to rural seniors who are isolated. The province is also looking for innovative program models, for example, offering a mobile service.
