Combermere man named 2018 Fan of the Year

COMBERMERE – The Muskrat Voyageurs minor hockey association named their Fan of the Year for the 2017/2018 hockey season. This season, the Muskrat Voyageurs selected Wayne Giffin of Combermere to be named their fan of the year. Giffin said he has been involved in hockey since he was young, and it continued when he drove his son to hockey and even his grandson Thomas who played last season as a member of the Muskrat Voyageurs minor midget team. The commitment Giffin made for his grandson Thomas was the reason he was awarded the Fan of the Year award. Giffin was quite humble when speaking with The Gazette about this recognition saying, “I am usually always going to hockey anyways.” The hockey fan lives with his grandson Thomas and wife Shirley in Combermere. Last hockey season, Thomas was a member of the Valley Storm minor hockey association but said they had taken a few older players. He was offered a position as an AP player (someone who would be called up to the team if someone was injured). So, Thomas decided that he would make the switch from the Valley Storm to the Muskrat Voyageurs. “He still wanted to play competitive so he played [for the Muskrat Voyageurs minor hockey association],” said Giffin.
